What is a Network Load-Balancer?

As the name indicates, it load balances the traffic between multiple application servers.

There are multiple load balancing methods for how we want the load balancer to perform in certation situations.

For instance, we have 3 backed servers that have the same hardware configuration in that case we could configure LB(Load Balancer) as

Round Robin – the connections coming to the server will be equally shared among them.

Let’s take one more example, wherein we have backend server but this time out of 3 servers one server has more hardware capabilities than the other two. So in that case we can do Ratio based load balancing, so the server which has a higher configuration would get 3 connections and the rest of the servers will get each connection.

Similar to this there are many other methods as well to handle the traffic which are developed by multiple vendors.
